Buying movies is almost a dangerous obession with me. I love it, and probably have spent more money on movies in my lifetime than any sane person. At least I’m not spending money on heroine.
New Movie Tuesday is my favorite day of the week. Here are this week’s releases as well as my recommendations.
Being the film snob I am, I will recommend the Blu Ray versions of these flicks if available.
MUST BUY
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes in an action flick? Once you set your expectations of a slow, ponderous Victorean detective story, there’s a lot of fun to be had with Guy Ritchie’s take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved character. Robert Downey Jr. is clearly having a lot of fun with this role and his sharp wit goes a long way. (Buy on Amazon, Rent on Netfllix)
RENT IT
I Sell The Dead
Ron Perlman, Dominic Monaghan and Zombies in the early 1900s? Yes, please! (Buy on Amazon, Rent on Netfllix)
An Education
Wonderful performances and an intriguing story make An Education a must see. Buying it, though, depends on your personality. I tend to re-watch certain genres (action, sci fi, horror) and tend to not re-watch dramas as much. But, if you’re a cinephile, you won’t be disappointed by adding this to your collection. (Buy on Amazon, Rent on Netfllix)
SKIP IT
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
Just because I have kids, doesn’t mean I have to subject them to bad films. While the first movie was a harmless experiment, nothing beats the original cartoon. The same formula was applied to Garfield: The Movie and my kids prefer the animated originals as well. Skip the movie and buy the animated versions. Your kids will thank you. (Don’t buy on Amazon, Don’t rent on Netfllix)
