DVD/Blu-ray Releases for 4/6/2010

Buying movies is almost a dangerous obession with me. I love it, and probably have spent more money on movies in my lifetime than any sane person. At least I’m not spending money on heroine.

New Movie Tuesday is my favorite day of the week. Here are this week’s releases as well as my recommendations.

Being the film snob I am, I will recommend the Blu Ray versions of these flicks if available.

RENT IT

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

“TILL THE BREAK OF DAWN!” Are you ready for the return of Bat-shit Insane Nick Cage? If so, Werner Hertzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is for you.  On sale for $14.99 at Amazon, this is almost a Must Buy.  However, a movie this crazy may not be your cup o’ tea.  Rent before you buy. (buy it on Amazon)

The Collector

A better Saw movie than most of the Saw sequels themselves, The Collector was based off a rejected Saw sequel idea penned by Marcus Dunstan (the Feast trilogy, Saw IV, Saw V).  If you’re into horror movies and don’t mind the Saw flicks, The Collector is surprisingly solid.  (buy it on Amazon)

SKIP IT

Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Theatrical Cut

Hollywood’s “Double Dip” syndrome really pisses me off.  They did it to us on the DVD  versions of Lord of the Rings and they’re doing it to us again.  I double dipped on DVD, and won’t make that mistake again.  Wait a year and you’ll have the far superior Extended Editions on Blu Ray.  Plus, I’m hearing The Fellowship of the Ring’s blu ray transfer is pretty shoddy.  You’ve waited this long, you can wait a little longer.
