Surprise everyone! Early reviews are coming in for Dragonball: Evolution and they’re not good. I’m actually shocked that 3 out of the 13 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are positive. Still, we’ll see how this pans out over Easter weekend. I’m guessing the percentage will go down significantly.
Here’s what they’re saying so far:
“Making no effort to be original, exciting, witty or even vaguely plausible, it may pass the time as sparkly fodder for 12-year-old boys with plenty of sugar in their bloodstream.” David Jenkins, Time Out
“A charmless, somewhat cynical attempt to cash in on one of the most beloved anime franchises of all time.” Orlando Parfitt, IGN Movies UK
“It’s just dull, dumb and depressing.” Andrew Osmond, SFX Magazine
“Tearing through its mystical, who-gives-a-toss storyline like a pissed bat bouncing off cave walls, Dragonball’s cocktail of cheap effects, eye-rolling cliches and dismal direlogue will have fans of the series condemning it as a beyond-lame failure.” Matt Mueller, Total Film
“When you head to the theater to see a movie called Dragonball: Evolution, you obviously aren’t expecting Shakespeare. From the advertising, the whole thing gives off a feeling of light, campy, action-packed fun that you would hope would allow you to just sit back, relax and turn off your brain for 90 minutes or so.
Yeah, well, that’s why we have words like ‘hope’ as a counterpoint to ‘guarantee.’” Ross Miller, Screenrant
